SNAP Food Benefits and TANF Cash Help
You will get a Lone Star Card. This is a plastic card that is used like a debit card. Each month, your approved monthly benefit amount is placed in your card’s account.
Medicaid
You will get a Medicaid card.
Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
You will get a CHIP insurance card.
Do I have to apply online?
- Call 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905. After you pick a language, press 2
- Download a paper application by clicking the link ‘Get a Paper Form’ at the bottom of the page
- Pick up an application at a benefits office near you
How do I get a paper application?
You can choose to:
- Download the application to fill it out on your computer
- Print out the application and fill it out by hand
- Ask us to mail the application to you
Sign and date the application before mailing it to us.
You cannot apply for or renew your benefits using the mobile app. Uploading a picture of an application or renewal may delay your benefits.
When you come back to finish your application, log in to your account and continue your application.
We save unfinished applications for 60 days. If you don’t log back in within 60 days, your application and any files you uploaded while applying will be deleted.

Get help in person by clicking the link ‘Find an office’ at the bottom of any page.
How do I check my interview time?
- Log in to your account
- Click ‘Manage’
- Click on ‘Interviews’ under the Quick links
You can also check your interview time using the Your Texas Benefits mobile app. Download it in the Google Play or iTunes App Store.
What additional items will I need to give when I apply?
- Who you are (identity)
- Money you get (income)
- Costs you pay (expenses)
- Things you pay for or own (assets)
Uploading files with your application may help us make a faster decision.
If you cannot provide proof of information when you submit your application, we will try to verify information using online sources. If we can’t find what we need, we will send you a letter that tells you what you need to send us.
